Services
Thank you for your interest in Hawaiian Pools! With over three decades in business, we are the leading residential and commercial swimming pool builder in Ohio and Michigan. Our portfolio includes new pool and spa construction, renovations, service & maintenance. Hawaiian Pools builds custom Shotcrete (Gunite/Concrete) swimming pools and spas and fiberglass pools.
Each year the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) holds an industry-sponsored awards program where pool builders anonymously send in their projects for judging. Judges are made up of other APSP Member Builders and they evaluate each contractor's submissions with no knowledge of whom they are judging for optimal impartiality.
Planning your pool is perhaps the most important part of the process for any individual or family. A pool that is uniquely yours will be thoroughly enjoyed because it was built to suit your needs and desires. A well designed backyard can significantly increase your living space, and having the proximity of a vacation spot right outside your back door can be the best stress reliever in the world!
Hawaiian Pools builds Shotcrete pools, which is an extremely solid and heavy-duty type of concrete. Many in the pool industry use and have used for decades the word Gunite, therefore that is the word most people know. The end-result of both products is the same whether you install Gunite or Shotcrete.

I had scheduled a pool opening in October of last year for May. Kept checking on that day to see if they were coming out since I took the day off from work to be there to help with locating anything they needed. They called me at 7pm to say they were not going to be out after all and it would be two days later when they could come out. I told them from 4-6pm on that day would be the worst time to come and that is when they showed up. Asked for a discount due to the inconvenience of taking day off from work and was sent a very nasty e-mail and banned.

Owner told me this when I asked for a discount "My first thought, is you don't live on the same planet as the rest of us, and you certainly don't know anything about the pool business. Please don't call, this company EVER. We will not service you under any condition. You've crossed the line. You obviously take pride in stepping over a dollar to pick up a penny." Not sure why asking for a discount warranted this.

Absolutely garbage. It started out great until they got their last payment from us. Good luck getting any help from them. Pool shell developed a blemish. They never had time to come out and take a picture to get it fixed. I ended getting ahold of manufacturer and got it fixed myself. Concrete cracked at multiple areas and we were told. " Too bad that's what happens in nw Ohio" stay away!

Critical: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We've had Hawaiian Pools close our pool once and open it twice. Thus last opening they never turned the pool on, didn't put water into the pool, and obviously lied on their report since the pool is not running. Do not use this company until they start valuing the customer and making amends for poor service. Service: Winterisation

Been over 3 weeks, and still waiting on a return call. Come to find out, they are just overwhelmed due the the virus and the high demand for pools and stay cations.

We have had our pool for almost 3yrs now and have scheduled with Hawaiian Pools the past two years to open it every summer. For two years in a row, we have confirmed the date for the pool opening by us calling them. The date has come and gone once again. I called this afternoon at 3pm to verify they were still coming out today and was told "yes, they are at the stop before you.

You are next." Come 5 o'clock, we get a phone call they overbooked for the day and will not be able to make it. The same exact thing happened last year. Scheduled for a certain day and was told they overbooked, wouldn't be able to make it. I understand situations come up, but if you are a professional company, you would think you would have it scheduled in the day for the appropriate time to make all appointments-planning for possible problems or extended time.

There was no phone call prior to 5pm when they closed that they were not going to make it. If you have the schedule prior and can see how many appointments you have, knowing you overbooked, be professional and let your customers know so they are not expecting you.

I'm torn between giving this company 3 stars or 4. We really struggled throughout the project for a number of reasons. Communication was terrible. Also, one of the crew members yelled at my son, who is only 5 for getting in his way. We didn't even know they had come to work on the pool, another example of poor communication, and they didn't like that my son was playing in and around the job site.

It IS our home, and our yard and a safe environment and he had every right to be out there, assuming they weren't there working. Then there were a few quality issues but they were all resolved eventually. I feel like this company possibly deserves the extra star for their efforts to make it right. They were very apologetic for the behavior of the crew member who yelled at my son and made better efforts to communicate.

And they really made it a point to let us know they'd do whatever it took to correct the quality of the work that was lacking. Examples include: chipped concrete corners, liner slipping in the corners, edges by the steps not smooth, deck jets not flush with the concrete, jet pressures so low they didnt even spray into the pool, what appeared to us to be stones under the liner, which were able to be hammered down into the ground.

Just as we were starting to see a comeback, and issues were starting to be addressed, but not yet corrected, they made several attempts to get the $9,000 deposit we had withheld (with permission because we didn't want to pay so much for work that had not yet been completed), we had several emails, phone calls, and voice mails piling up in just a 24 hr span.

My husband is very busy and I happened to be as well on that particular day. We were treated like we weren't going to pay, even though we paid for the entire project with cash thus far. In our last conversation with who I believe to be one of the owners, Brenda, we were discussing how we had a check waiting for them as soon as the work was completed.

She demanded a list of what still needed to be corrected to be texted or emailed immediately. She then exclaimed out of nowhere "I don't understand why you are making this a hostile environment". I was dumbfounded and taken back. I wondered if perhaps I had come across differently than I meant but my husband was there for the whole conversation and was also taken back by her accusation.

We were able to finalize the project the following day and we felt good enough about the work to pay the final balance. But both my husband and I really wish we could have had the same professionalism from everyone that we received from the two who completed the job and verbally apologized for the hiccups. In the end, we have a great pool and the kids are safe and happy.

I just wish the communication had been better and more professional. But I can't say enough good about their efforts to make it right. They were very attentive after my original Google review part way through the project. We started May 1st and were swimming by June 3rd I believe, and final completion by June 12. I think I'll give them a 4. In the end, they got the job done right.
